As You know the Japan Display Inc. (JDI) is leading global manufacturer of advanced Small and Medium-size LTPS LCDs since April 2012 in Japan. The Company has announced their development of FULL ACTIVE FLEX-display which uses a plastic substrate on both sides of the liquid crystal layer and its introduction into a 5.5-inch full-HD LCD Display for the smartphone.
The LCD can be easily curved shapes by utilizing its flexibility by the side by side as expand the degrees of freedom in smartphone design. Also, by using plastic substrates instead of glass, it is possible to prevent cracking from occurring when the display is dropped.
JDI has planned to start mass production of this display by 2018.
As per JDI the technology will be possible to be used in the smartphone as well as Notebook PCs, Automotive applications, and other various products.
